With snow season on the horizon and airports already showing signs of holiday congestion, Uber has unveiled a new batch of travel-focused services designed for winter travellers.
According to a CNBC report, the company has launched Uber Ski, a dedicated option for those heading to the slopes, along with airport ride-sharing options and gifting features ahead of the festive period.
Uber’s latest updates are part of a broader effort to support users dealing with tight travel schedules, disrupted flights, and seasonal transport pressures in the US, Canada, Switzerland, and France.
Uber Ski rolls out across four countries
Uber Ski is now live across nearly 40 ski mountains in North America and Europe.
The service is available through March and is designed to make ski resort travel more accessible by allowing users to reserve vehicles with extra space for winter gear.
Riders can book UberXL or UberXXL vehicles up to 90 days in advance, ensuring enough room for ski or snowboarding equipment. The service is integrated with Uber Reserve, making it easier for travellers to plan ahead.
In partnership with Vail Resorts, notes CNBC, Uber also offers in-app bookings to the company’s ski locations. Users can additionally purchase the Epic Pass within the app.
This ski pass provides access to more than 90 ski and snowboard resorts, consolidating resort access and transportation into one streamlined platform.
Airport ride-sharing expands as delays rise
Uber Share has launched at John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, and Orlando International Airport.
This feature pairs travellers heading in the same direction, offering savings of up to 25 percent on their fare.
The update comes as airports face increased disruption following the recent end of the longest US federal government shutdown in history.
President Donald Trump signed a funding bill late Wednesday to reopen the government.
However, delays and cancellations across airports have continued, prompting Uber to provide more flexible and cost-effective ride-sharing options for affected passengers.
Uber adds new tools for ride gifting
The company has also added a new “Send a Ride” feature to its app.
This allows users to cover someone else’s ride fare by sending a link that applies a voucher automatically to the recipient’s next trip.
The feature is intended to help users manage transport for friends and family, especially during the busy holiday season.
Uber Eats has also received an update with the “Send a Gift” feature, where users can include a short video with their gift.
The videos can either be personalised or selected from celebrity clips featuring Megan Thee Stallion, the Jonas Brothers, and Tracee Ellis Ross.
This is aimed at offering a more engaging gifting experience within the platform.
Seasonal demand fuels Uber mobility updates
These new features are part of a broader update strategy focused on easing travel stress during peak holiday periods.
From ski destinations to airport pick-ups, Uber’s services are targeting common holiday travel needs with a blend of planning tools, cost savings, and personalisation.
CNBC states that Pradeep Parameswaran, Uber’s global head of mobility, noted that the new tools are designed to support users trying to enjoy the holidays while managing heavy travel schedules.
With Uber Ski and airport ride-sharing now available, users have additional options to streamline their journeys during one of the busiest times of the year.
